Suffice to say that this year we’ve all spent a lot of time in our gardens. If your garden is looking on the untidy side or you just fancy a refreshing new look, a new year is a great time for a garden redesign.
We’ve got five great tips to help you redesign your garden, whatever your budget.
1. Plant Smart
New plants are one of the easiest ways to freshen up your garden’s look. They bring color, beauty, and fresh scents to your garden.
You should plan ahead for your planting. For flowers, get a mix of plants that will bloom throughout the spring, summer, and even autumn. This will ensure your garden has color in it all year round.
But it’s not just blooms. Get textures in your gardens with a mix of foliage, barks, and even fruits and vegetables. It’s a great idea to add some evergreens to your garden so there’s still some life even in the winter.
2. Furniture
If you haven’t got furniture or if your garden furniture has seen better days, new furniture is a quick and easy update. Replace basic garden sets with something more luxurious if it’s within your budget. There are beautiful wood lounge sets available that will transform your garden into a place to escape to.
Don’t worry if you’re trying to figure out how to make your garden look nice on a budget. Most decent quality garden furniture can be upcycled easily. Use your own older furniture, or there’s a whole host of secondhand outdoor furniture options online.
3. Out with the Old
One thing that can make a huge difference to the way your garden looks is by removing trees. Especially in smaller gardens, with trees which have outgrown the space they were originally planted in take over gardens. They block out light, wreak havoc on raking, and can even affect the foundations of your home.
We’d recommend getting an arborist like Alberta Arborists to do the job professionally.
4. Outdoor Haven
One of our favorite ideas to create somewhere wonderful is with an outdoor space. This is a bigger project than most, but so worth it if you can put in the time and effort.
Outdoor spaces give you somewhere to escape to even when the weather isn’t on your side. If your garden is big enough, we’d even suggest making it hidden away from the real world. This way it can function as a real retreat just for you!
5. Make It Yours
Without a little style, gardens can all look a little generic. The same borders, lawn, patio, and ornaments. What a snooze.
Add your personality to your garden just like you would to other spaces in your home. Paint everything whatever color you want to. Add lights, ornaments, and anything else you can think of.
Making your garden your own is sure to make you fall in love with it all over again.
Plan Ahead
Most of all, for any of these tips, make sure you plan ahead. You can do this by consulting with a professional gardener or just by drawing it up on a notepad. Planning it all out will help you figure out all the materials you’ll need to do it, as well as any help you may need.
